Physical Security 

  • Data centre access limited to RackSpace data centre technicians
  • Biometric scanning for controlled data centre access
  • Security camera monitoring at all data centre locations
  • 24x7 onsite staff provides additional protection against unauthorised entry
  • Unmarked facilities to help maintain low profile
  • Every data centre employee undergoes multiple and thorough background security checks before they're hired
  • Physical security audited by an independent firm

Protective Environment 

  • Every data centre's HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system is N+1 redundant. This ensures that a duplicate system immediately comes online should there be an HVAC system failure
  • Every 90 seconds, all the air in the data centre is circulated and filtered to remove dust and contaminants
  • The data centre has advanced fire suppression systems which are designed to stop fires from spreading in the unlikely event one should occur

Conditioned Power 

  • Should a total utility power outage ever occur, all the data centre’s power systems are designed to run uninterrupted, with every server receiving conditioned UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) power
  • The UPS power subsystem is N+1 redundant, with instantaneous failover if the primary UPS fails
  • If an extended utility power outage occurs, the routinely tested, on-site diesel generators can run indefinitely

Core Routing Equipment 

  • Only fully redundant, enterprise-class routing equipment is used in Rackspace data centres
  • Fibre carriers enter RackSpace data centres at disparate points to guard against service failure

System Security 

  • System installation using hardened, patched OS
  • System patching configured by RackSpace to provide ongoing protection from exploits
  • Dedicated firewall and VPN services to help block unauthorised system access
  • Data protection with RackSpace managed backup solutions
  • Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation services based on proprietary RackSpace PrevenTier™ system

Operational Security 

  • ISO17799-based policies and procedures, regularly reviewed as part of the SAS70 Type II audit process
  • All RackSpace employees trained on documented information security and privacy procedures
  • Access to confidential information restricted to authorised personnel only, according to documented processes
  • Systems access logged and tracked for auditing purposes
  • Secure document-destruction policies for all sensitive information
  • Fully documented change-management procedures
  • All passwords encrypted during transmission and while in storage at RackSpace
  • Secure media handling and destruction procedures for all customer data
